Cold. Alone. Desperate. That is how thousands of Chicagoans feel during the winter. For those who are homeless or lacking adequate clothing, winter by the lake can be brutal, and at times, hopeless. Warm, Safe & Sound is an opportunity for local bands and their fans to do something positive for these people.
The concept is simple, yet highly effective: five Chicago-based rock n' roll bands ask their fans to donate coats or sweaters at the door in exchange for a reduced cover. That clothing is then given to a local organization, which distributes it to those who need it. This year's Warm, Safe & Sound features five dynamic and buzz-worthy modern rock bands, The Locals, The Bright White, Ace Reporter, Hard Kiss and Young Distractions.

In this season of giving thanks, local female musicians give back to the Chicago community by rocking out at “Covers to Cover V" (V = 5). After years of performing original music shows, these musicians pay homage to their favorite rock, new wave and punk bands to benefit Institute of Women Today. Many of these bands are created just this benefit.
This fun benefit is MCed by Rattina, the female rat puppet co-host of cult favorite children’s music show, “Chic-A-Go-Go”.
The Institute of Women Today provides transitional housing and mentoring for homeless women and their children through experiences that empower, support and transform women and the broader community.
This is the seventh anniversary of the Covers for Cover series. The music benefit series has raised over $7,000 for local women's homeless shelters Deborah’s Place, Sarah's Circle, Connections for Abused Women and their Children, and the Primo Center.
In the spirit of sharing and rocking out, let's provide warmth for those without.
