Neko Case

Neko Case

Schubas first hosted Neko Case in August of 2001, shortly after she relocated to Chicago after finding Seattle's local music scene to be lacking hospitality. She stopped by in support of Canadian Amp, her first work in Chicago, which she released on her own Lady Pilot label. She returned in October of 2003 touring behind Blacklisted, the first album credited to Case alone, without backing band Her Boyfriends (which featured alumni of the Softies, Zumpano, and Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet). On May 6th, The New Pornographers' Electric Version, featuring Neko Case providing a lion's share of the lead vocals, was released to critical acclaim. This was also the year Neko was voted the "Sexiest Babe of Indie Rock" in a Playboy.com poll. In 2004, Case signed with Anti- Records in the United States, and returned to Schubas for three nights in March of 2004. Joined by The Sadies, Jim & Jennie & The Pinetops, Cordero, and Carolyn Mark, these shows (along with 2 others held at Lee's Palace in Toronto) were recorded and released as The Tigers Have Spoken in October of the same year. Check it out if you want to hear a great artist playing to a great crowd in a great room. Or, you could come to Schubas where that happens every night.
